Stock ledgers of the traded artworks

Stock ledgers 1 to 4 as well as purchase book of the traded artworks

In the stock ledgers 1 to 4 artworks traded via the Galerie Heinemann were entered with a unique consecutive number upon acquisition (H-Nr.). These four stock ledgers comprise the time period 1894 to 1924, but the time period up to 1911 is not a complete subsequent entry. Owing to this subsequent entry there was overlapping with the stock ledgers 1, 2 and 4. There are no stock ledgers for the time period from 1924 to 1934. A so-called purchase book has survived for the time period from 1934 to 1938, in which the artworks bought are also noted with the Heinemann number. The stock ledgers 1 to 4 and the purchase book were entered in full in the database.

The ledgers contain the following information:
“In page” for the purchase of the artwork: Date of acquisition, Heinemann number, also including catalog number, name of the artist, title, dimensions, purchase price, price of frame, comments (i.e., on inventories or co-owners of the artwork).

“Out page” for the sale of the artwork: Date of removal, name and address of buyer, sales price, comments (i.e., on taxes, gifting or reproduction rights, with the associated price).

Stock ledger 1 (LB01)
covers the time period between June 1, 1894 and November 28, 1903. It has 302 pages and contains the numbers 7 to 6.817.

Stock ledger 2 (LB02)
was set up on June 1, 1911 and covers the time period between June 1, 1894 and July 16, 1918. It has 304 pages and contains the numbers 44 to 14.041; as of the number 10.935 listed since June 1894 there is no overlapping with LB01 and LB04.

Stock ledger 3 (LB03)
covers the time period between July 29, 1918 and December 29, 1924. It has 265 pages and contains the numbers 14.042 to 17.958.

Stock ledger 4 (LB04)
covers the time period between November 28, 1903 and September 09, 1911. It has 148 pages and contains the numbers 6.818 to 11.106.

Purchase book (EB)
covers the time period between November 05, 1934 and November 03, 1938. It has 57 pages and contains the numbers 19.146 to 19.797.
